The passing of Ron Parnell has been very sad for our club members who held Ron close to our hearts.
He was an inspiration in many ways … caring, funny someone determined to get things done.
His funeral details are below:
💙
Wednesday 1st May at 12.30 pm
Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens and Crematorium, East Chapel. 199 Delhi Road, North Ryde
Followed by a Wake at Baulkham Hills Sports Club at 2.30pm. 11 Renown Road, Baulkham Hills. 💙💙
As our President Robert Bredin said:
“Rotary’s motto this year is ‘Creating hope in the world’. Ron lived that motto with everything he did. He was the driving force behind our mental health expo and the creation of The Hills older men’s group. He also published a men’s newsletter that made a difference all over the world. Mate, you made a difference. We will miss you 😢

Sad news, our heartfelt condolences to the family and rotarians 💐🌹🪷

Sad to hear - our heartfelt condolences from 🇩🇰Ingrids family to Ron’s family and friends. It’s obvious that Ron played a great role in many lifes❣️

While I did know Ron as extensively as the members of the Norwest Sunrise Rotary Club on the occasions when I met him he left a positive impact. Ron exemplified a high order commitment to values to which it would benefit all to aspire.

There are so many photos of Ron at the heart of our club. He will be missed

I’m so sorry to hear about Ron. What an amazing gentleman and an incredible servant of the community who always put others first.

This is sad news. My condolences to Ron’s friends and family. Ron was instrumental in the Hills OMNI (Older Men’s Network Incorporated).

we will miss you Ron, rest in paradise. Heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives & friends

Very sad news. Rest in eternal peace, Ron. 🙏 Thank you for your wonderful service.

It was an inspiration to be around Ron. There is a quote by George Bernard Shaw that captures the essence of Ron for me” "This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."

Sorry to hear of Rons passing. May he rest in peace. He will be remembered for his devotion to the awareness of Men's Health & a great Rotarian & Friend to many. Thinking of you all.

RDU Editor 1984-2014
Forever in our hearts and greatly missed

It was a dark day for all at Rotary Down Under when we learned of the passing of PDG Bob Aitken AM. His unwavering support, mentorship, encouragement and love brought out the very best in all who crossed his path.

Our June edition of RDU will pay special tribute to Bob, who dedicated his life to shining a floodlight on Rotary’s service in Australia, New Zealand, the South West Pacific and beyond.

Since 7 October, nearly 200 humanitarian workers have been killed in Gaza, including seven from Monday's attack on a World Central Kitchen convoy.

❗️ This must stop ❗️

Humanitarian workers - including our partners - are putting their own lives at risk to deliver aid to people who desperately need it but are unable to leave. The only way to ensure their safety, and the safety of all civilians, is with a humanitarian ceasefire.

📣 Share this post to show your solidarity with aid workers in Gaza and around the world.

Thank you to Theo Glockermann from Pennant Hills Rotary, who spoke to us about holding RYLA youth leadership programsin Timor-Leste. Every year 1,000 young people from Timor-Leste apply for the 80 available places on this amazing Rotary program. There is also a school’s based RYPEN program enriching young people’s lives and working to Improve self esteem, improve family relationships, school attendance, goal setting and community service which is helping to lessen incidents of sexual assault. It is always good to remind ourselves of the powerful work that Rotary is doing both here and overseas with young people. ... See MoreSee Less

Embrace the day was the message from our fabulous Rotary Exchange student Ingrid this morning. She entertained the meeting with a report on her recent Safari Trip to Kangaroo Island, Alice Springs and Uluṟu with 19 other Echange students from all over the world!
It was wonderful hearing about Ingrid’s experiences and the lifelong friendships she has made. As a club we definitely recommend being part of the Rotary Exchange experience.🌟
And we all sang happy Birthday to incoming president Maria 🎉

Thank you everyone who attended our International Women’s Day breakfast this morning. It was wonderful to see such a mixed vibrant group gathering to hear our speakers.
Cheryl spoke about Days for Girls Australia and the work her Castle Hill group does to supply reusable cotton sanitary items to girls in developing countries, Lara spoke about the psychological benefits of eating and sleeping well and being active. Do things slowly and don’t restrict yourself. Ellen spoke about the mums who inspire her at the Fit Kidz Foundation and working to connect families with neurodiverse children.
It was an informative and inspiring way to start the day.

If you need connection and motivation on a Friday morning then Norwest Rotary Club is a great place to be.
Great people, great conversations and more. Last week Sophie and Isaac spoke to the club about their amazing RYLA experience and this week Martin spoke about the Rotary Foundation.
Ingrid our Rotary Exchange student also gave us an update on her adventures.
There is so much that Rotary does to foster leadership in young people and also create a healthier world.
It was great to have a visit from Mark Hodges - Member for Castle Hill. Visitors are always welcome. We meet at 7am on Friday mornings at Hills Shire Council’s cafe. 3 Columbiaia Court.
